BEHIND THE BRAND: Design Process Behind Style No.1

Introducing a new series where I open the doors to the world of FRARLIBETH. Learn about the creatives I work with, my own personal journey, design development and styling mood boards.

In today's post I am going to talk through the design process for Style No.1 from the Summer collection. The most chic LBD that can be styled for both day and night, she will be your summer wardrobe staple.

When designing, I always have a look through Pinterest first to get some ideas. I love the sophisticated and elegant styles of the Bond girl's from James Bond films, especially the long black dress worn by Barbara Bach in 'The Spy Who Loved Me'. I used this as inspiration to develop a satin black maxi dress with chic details like the high neck scarf detail.

I always love to sketch my designs out on paper, I find it much easier to change different elements of the design compared to sketching digitally!

It's then time to pick out the right fabric, my factory show me lots of different fabric compositions and help advise on what fabric would be most suitable for the design. We decided on a satin chiffon fabric which is a heavier weight compared to silk and has a beautiful sheen.

Before sampling, myself and the factory talk through the design in lots of detail. If certain design element won't work, the factory will advise before hand and consult my opinion before we go ahead making the sample. The factory are experts when it comes to manufacturing garments and have so much knowledge on garment construction and fabric types, it makes developing designs so much easier!

Once myself and the factory have discussed all of the details, the sampling process commences.

And here is the final design!
